OSKALOOSA —
“Snickers,” a white-face gray cockatiel, is going to be famous across the country.
Snickers will be one of the birds featured in the National Cockatiel Society’s 2013 calendar and the society will write an article about him too, said Snickers’ owner, Steve Church. Snickers was discovered via Facebook and officials from the society wanted to include him in the upcoming calendar, Church said.
“They were impressed with his tail,” Church said.
Snickers has a 6 to 7 inch tail, and his overall length is 15 1/2 inches, he said. Snickers also has a 2 to 3 inch crest, he added.
Snickers isn’t just a pretty face either — he can do several tricks.
“He can talk and sing. He whistles quite a bit,” Church said.
Church has a second cockatiel — “Cinamon” who is a white-faced cinnamon cockatiel — to give Snickers some company. Cinamon is 8 1/2 months old and is 13 1/2 inches long.
Both birds like to be out of their cages during the day and socialize together.
“He’s really tamed down since we got him in January,” Church said of Snickers. “He’ll climb up on your shoulder or hand.”
Church likes both of his cockatiels.
“They’re special — they’re good pets,” he said. “We’ve had cockatiels before. They were nothing compared to these guys.”
