Centerville is losing its last movie and game rental facility as Mr. Movies, located at the Lake Center Mall, stopped renting items to patrons at close on Sunday and opened this morning to begin a liquidation sale.
According to Lonnie Strong, president of Mr. Movies, the store had been suffering from low sales for a while and the lease was up at the end of the month, so the decision was made to close the store.
Employees were informed on Monday and the store began preparations to begin liquidating their inventory. Strong anticipated the sale could continue for two to three weeks, depending on how fast the inventory was sold. Everything will be for sale, including movies, games, furniture, filing cabinets and other items. Long said sometimes if sales are strong, the company will ship in merchandise from other locations to sell as well.
Customers who currently have items rented out can drop them into the drop box at the store. Customers who have unused super saver cards can use them towards the purchase of merchandise during the liquidation sale or mail them in for a refund.
In the end, Long said it was just becoming more difficult to have a large rental facility due to the changing market.
"We've been here a long time and we're sad to go," said Strong.
