BATAVIA —
A business that’s focused on making its clients feel better through muscle massage, steam baths, herbal compresses, facials and more in an old bank building that’s being renovated.
Whose idea was this? Both Hattie Peck and Mindi Kirkhart are responsible. And Brett Mook helped, too.
Peck owns the old building at 910 Third St., Batavia. She and her partner, Mook, are renovating the building, which now houses Peck’s Gifted Hands Spa and Mindi Kirkhart’s Gifted Hands Day Spa.
“Brett is a carpenter and has built many things in here,” Peck said.
The new, blonde wood flooring shines when you step inside and the big windows on the front half allow natural lighting to fill the inside. The businesses have a front desk and three treatment rooms.
Peck has the “gifted hands.” She does massage and if there’s been an injury she “can address that issue.” She does traditional therapy, such as massage, and can emphasize the neuromuscular trigger points.
“I work barefoot and do deep tissue massage, which is good for a large worker or the construction guys,” Peck said. “That stretches out everything. Then I use a Thai herbal compress.”
Peck also offers “Shirodhara,” an oil for ayurvedic treatments, or for steam baths, detoxing and skin cleansing.
Kirkhart is a licensed esthetician and skin therapist. She can do facial treatments for aging, acne, sensitive skin, and skin brightening; and, she has treatments suited for every condition from dry to oily.
Body waxing and hair removal are also on her “can-do list.”
“At some point I want to do body wraps, such as mud wraps, hydrating, detox and exfoliating treatments,” Kirkhart said.
On her information sheet, Kirkhart said “skin is the largest organ” of the human body.”
“So let it shine!” Kirkhart said. “A person’s overall health shows in the skin, hair and nails. Remember, your epidermis is showing!”
