Nebraska train hits semi, Ottumwa man hurt

CLARKS, Neb. (AP) — The Nebraksa State Patrol says an Iowa truck driver suffered a broken leg when his tractor-trailer was rammed by a train in east-central Nebraska.

The patrol says the trucker turned too tightly off U.S. Highway 30 near Clarks at 1:22 a.m. Thursday and got stuck in a culvert.

That kept him from moving his truck off railroad tracks in time to escape being hit by the eastbound train.

A patrol dispatcher identified the driver as 63-year-old Ival McVey of Ottumwa.

McVey, who also suffered cuts to his face, was taken to a Central City, Neb. hospital, then to a Lincoln, Neb. hospital.
