Raymond Richman, 94, Humeston

HUMESTON — Raymond Marvin Richman, son of James Elmer and Grace (Gibbs) Richman, was born in Wayne County northwest of Humeston, Iowa on August 28, 1912.

He passed away at the Chariton Nursing Home on November 1, 2006, at the age of 94.

He was united in marriage to Erma Boyce on December 23, 1934, they lived 71 happy years together before her passing on October 24, 2005. Raymond and Erma started married life on a farm over by Humeston. Raymond was a substitute teacher at a country school for a short time and also carried mail by foot in the country in the winter when the roads were drifted. Later Raymond and Erma moved to a farm east of Millerton and lived there for 70 years. Two children came to bless this marriage, Ray Dean and Donna Jean.

Raymond accepted Christ as his savior many years ago and lived a good and happy life. He was a wonderful husband and father. He spent many years entertaining his grandchildren whom he dearly loved. Raymond attended Bethlehem Methodist Church and was the superintendent and a teacher for many years. After the closing of the church he attended Millerton Methodist Church and became a member there. Raymond never met a stranger and enjoyed his family and friends, he was a lifetime farmer and loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, and working in his garden.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Erma; a grandson, Gary; three brothers, Edwin, Eldon, and Alan; a brother-in-law, Leo Boyce; and three sisters-in-law, Oneda, Clela, and Reva Richman.

Survivors include his two children, Ray Dean and his wife Maxine of Ottumwa, Donna Haner and companion Bill Graves of Chariton; six grandchildren, Shelly and Chuck Willis, Todd Richman, David and Theresa Richman, Steve and Carey Richman, Teresa and Terry Brinkley, and Douglas Haner; eleven great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Roberta Richman and Faith Boyce; several nieces, nephews and numerous friends.

Services for Raymond were held at 10:30 a.m. on November 6, 2006, at Fielding Funeral Home in Chariton.

Visitation was from 2 to 4 p.m. on November 5, 2006, at the funeral home. Burial was at the New York Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Bethlehem Chapel or the Millerton Methodist Church.

Fielding Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
